Neno "Wanyambo" hakuna mtu mwenye uhakika namwenye kutoa maelezo mazuri ya kuwa linatokana na nini au lina maana gani. Katoke(1975;7) anaeleza katika utafiti wake kuwa zipo simulizi mbali mbali kuwa Wanyambo wanatokana na kizazi cha "Kanyambo" mtoto wa "Ruhanga"  ambaye alitumwa kuanzisha nchi ya Karagwe toka Bunyoro.ivyo,watoto zake na vizazi vyake ndani ya karagwe kuitwa Wanyambo,na kwamba kabila hili limegawanyika katika makundi ya wakulima na wafugaji.Pia,wapo watu wanaotoa simulizi huko Bunyoro (nchini Uganda)  kuwa mababu zao walizaliwa na kutoka Karagwe.

Hata hivyo,Birgita Farelius(2008:35-38) katika utafiti wake anasema yafuatayo nami bila kupotosha nayanukuu "To the south of Ankole, the people of Karagwein the former Tanganyika were placed under the heading of the "Haya" in for example Audrey Richard's Volume on East African Chiefs (1959;174-194) .The Bahaya proper were basically fishing people whom the first Europeans had found along lake Victoria .However,it was recognized that the inhabitants of Karagwe, the Banyambo were ot to be "considered as pure Bahaya because of the strong Rundi element, also in their language "(  Cory1949;13) .In principle can be termed as free state from Bukoba and is separated from Bukoba area "in terms of geology, climate,vegetation,population density,and economy". (Schmidt 1978;12)  quoting the 1988 population census that, the figure for karagwe was 292,589, while Bukoba urban and Rural and  including Muleba had 665,412 inhabitants.


Moreover,In the kingdom of Buhaya powe evolved around cattle ownership(Katoke 1975;36, Anacleth and Ndagala 1981;154 ).In the Nyarubanja land tenure system in the Buhaya ,the Kings could confiscate banana plantantions and then confer them in his favourities or relatives.And the original occupants, who could have been clan heads,were allowed to stay on as tenants,the Landlords enjoying the tribute from their labour.Again,this system did not exits in Karagwe( see for example Cory and Hartnoll 1945;123-124 and Ishumi 1971;724)


Bishop J.Kibira (1974;11) as quoted by Birgita (2008) says,for the purpose of colonial administrative expediency ,Karagwe was categorised as part of Buhaya "Tribe" under Bukoba district ,although their socio-economic structures,their culture and their language differ.In fact Buhaya and Karagwe have been characterized as"almost two different countries in one region"


The Luhaya spoken by the Buhaya and the Runyambo of the Banyambo are treated as dialects of one language belonging to Rutara group of Great lakes Bantu Speakers.But,Bashungwa (1988) ,a Mnyambo linguistic in his researchdoes not support this conclusion,but suggests that there is a closer affinity between Runyambo and Runyankole than Runyambo and Ruhaya.


Moreover,Karagwe and Buhaya traditionally had different political systems,the Kingdom of Karagwe,which the colonialists found in place,had more in common with Nkole than with the Buhaya Kingdoms.


Katika kuhitimisha hili tunapenda kuamini kwamba wakoloni waliunganisha(Wanyambo)  toka Karagwe na (Wahaya) toka Bukoba na wote kuitwa "Wahaya"  ili kurahisisha utawala wao walipoingia nchini Tanzania.Lakini,ni ukweli usiopingika kwamba Wanyambo wanaopatikana katika wilaya ya Karagwe na Wahaya kutoka Bukoba wanatofautiana sana kutokana na asili yao,shughuli za kiuchumi,kijamii,mila na desturi,mazingira,na lugha zao kama tafiti hapo juu zinavyoeleza.Aidha,Kinyambo kutokana na tafiti hapo juu kinashabihiana zaidi na Kinyankole kuliko Kihaya.


Hata hivyo, jamii ya watu wanaoishi Karagwe sasa ina mchanganyiko wa makabila mbali mbali kama vile Wanyambo,Wahaya,Wasubi,Wanyarwanda,wanyankole,Warundi,wazinza, Wahangaza n.k
