ARUSHA,
TANZANIA, MAY 11 TO 14, 2016.
GOOD
GOVERNANCE AND PROPER BUSINESS POLICIES TOWARDS SUSTAINABLE AFRICAN BUSINESS
DEVELOPMENT
Opening Speech by the Guest of Honor,
Honorable Kalist Lazaro Bukhay, The Lord Mayor of the City of Arusha, Tanzania.
It
is my great pleasure and privilege, as the Lord Mayor of the City of Arusha, to
welcome you to this esteemed Conference and to the City of Arusha
and to Tanzania. It will continue to be our great pleasure to make you feel
at home in our city during your busy stay in Arusha.
I am
especially excited by the Main theme of your Conference: Good Governance and
Proper Business Policies Towards Sustainable African Business Development. As
the Mayor of this city, I chair all development projects and programs in our
city of about half a million people. We are not only talking of development, we
are indeed talking of sustainable development, a goal that is at a priority of
our people and our business community. It is from this perspective that I
applaud and appreciate your main theme for this Conference, a theme being
discussed just in the nick of time when our desire is to reduce poverty among
our African peoples.
As
leaders, we know that Good Governance is absolutely essential for Sustainable
Business Development. We know that Good
Governance is a catalyst for Sustainable Business Development anywhere, and in
our Continent, this is a discussion that is taking place at the right time. We
are therefore expecting that this Distinguished Conference will spell out
practical guidelines and directives that we in Africa can use to achieve our
goals of Sustainable Development. We are anxiously waiting to get new and
innovative ideas that will inspire our African Governments to create an atmosphere
in which the Business Community can feel free to do Business, to grow and
expand in all directions.
d
most awesome natural of humanity are right close to the city of Arusha. We are
talking here of the highest Mountain in Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro, which is
visible from Arusha on a clear day.
And
overshadowing the City of Arusha, as if to embrace it, is Mount Meru, the
second highest Mountain in Tanzania, on the slopes of which Ngurdoto Hotel is
situated. Then there is Arusha National Park that is a stone’s throw from this
hotel. A few hours from Arusha you will find two National Parks, the Tarangire
National Park and Manyara National Park, both situated in the heart of the
famous Rift Valley. Lake Manyara is the mother of Manyara National Park, as it
feeds the wild life and vegetation in the Park.
Several
hours from Arusha, you will find one of the seven wonders of the world: the
Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a breath-taking natural heritage that everyone
who can should visit. If you have time to visit only one of these natural
wonders, then that place is the Ngorongoro National Park. You really do not want
to miss this one. But this is not all. In Tanzania we have seventeen National
Parks and Reserves, not counting the beautiful and historical islands of
Zanzibar and Pemba, the beautiful beaches of the Indian Ocean to the East, and
a wonderful country side that punctuates every place that you visit. How
wonderful that the organizers of this International Conference have chosen to
come to Arusha.
Before
I close this speech I would like to again welcome you to this city and to this
country. You have a unique opportunity to do business and pleasure during this
conference and after this conference. In conclusion, Distinguished Guests,
Ladies and Gentlemen, it is now my great pleasure to declare that this
International Conference is open.
THANK
YOU.
